Empire Magazine Analysis

• The masthead on the magazine is in big, bold letters this would have been done to draw attention to the cover. The colour of the masthead is also red, this could connote danger, which can be emphasized by the feature article photograph which shows a thriller on the cover.
• The colour scheme of the page is white, red and dark blue/grey. They have done this because the red and the white stand out from the darker background; this would have been done to draw the eye of the reader to the cover.

• The main coverline that has been used is in big white writing, this draws the eye to the reader as they would want to find out further information about the film mentioned.

• This cover uses many plugs throughout the whole page. This is to give the reader a little insight into what is going to be included, the intention of this would be to draw a wider audience to possibly someone who may to be a fan of the main genre mentioned, but may want to read something else included. The main plug that draw the most attention is the ‘Turtle Recall’ this is because it sticks out the from page and uses a different colour pallete to the rest of the page. The other main plug on the page is the selection of pictures, these have been arranged into a film strip which links to the film genre and shows a selection of different films.

• The feature article photograph that has been used is a two shot of the main characters, the man is embracing the woman, however, she is not responsive to the man. This connotes that perhaps she is lifeless which possibly hints at a plot line in the story. The photograph covers over the masthead, they have done this because the magazine is well known and they do not always need to show us the name as many people will know the house style of the magazine.

• The puff that has been used stands out on the page because it uses a different colour scheme to the rest of the page, the beige cirlce looks like a sticker on the page. This has been done to boost the magazine and attract a wider audience of people who may only want to read world known magazines.
• Some of the coverlines on the page that have been used have been put in red, this would be to draw the attention of the reader and gives deeper information of some of the main storylines that are included within the magazine.
